Summer cottage, sauna and bestfriends. Sausages, bread and beer. You can´t fail whit those. Eating and talking about boys, for hours.

The temporature was glose to zero, so we could stay outside around two hours, then it started to get too cold and we went inside. Making a fire into the fireplace was the first thing i did when we arrived to the cottage, so after a couple of hours the cottage was warm enough.

We had only 11 liters of water and another 2 for drinking. The ice was still quite thick, so we didint start to make a hole. We just cathered some snow and melted it at the Sauna, to have something to throw to the rocks. 11 liters was enoug from 3 people to wash themselves. Snow allso kept our drinks cold, Tervasnapsi, which is liquor made out of tar, is the best Sauna drink.

After 2 hours of Sauna, the sun started to set and around 8 p.m it was pitch black. We packed our packs in to the car and cleaned the cottage whit just one lamp. Only thing that we lost, was one sock. More damage was done when we started driving the car. Ther is a litle hill, before the bigger rode when leaving our cottage. Ofcourse that snowy little hill was too much to our little red car, we got stuck. And not just a little stuck, but s-t-u-c-k. It took 45 minits and big pile of braches from evergreen tree. Luckily I was the one driving the car and Johanna and Helena bushed, sometimes it good to be weak.

Finnish winter sport

Today was the day; my little brothers first time on ice with his bike, and I was there with him. Allso our common friend, Timo, who had made the race track, was there (so I didint need to stand out in the cold waiting).

Skating and skiing are overrated. I enjoy sports with engines.

In Scotland I didn’t drive a car once, and I did sit in one about ten times in total. Since I got back home I have been driving more per day, than I have been sleeping.

My car is my home, best friend and life.

Sometimes I sleepover at my friends in Hämeenlinna.
Sometimes I sleepover at my grandmothers place.
Then again, I drive.

I go to school and try to do my best.
Then again, I drive.

I dream a lot. All the time. Mostly when I’m driving. Luckily I have a friend whit me all the time. My sweet little horsey. She’s still without a name, that’s sad; I need to figure out a name. A perfect name.

This is allso something that makes me happy, in these desperate times:

3.1.

For week now I have been sneezing and coughing. My garbage box is filled whit sneezing papers, our cat flinches every time I cough and I can´t sleep.

Winter is here.

-16 °C 10:30 am

When it is butt cold outside, you start to respect small things. You feel like a hero when you finally go out, and everything you see there feels like a miracle.

When my little brother was a small boy, he was building a castle out of snow in our yard. It was late already and dark. My dad went outside and placed a spotlight to the corner of our house to point in to the castle my brother was building and when back inside. After I while my dad went to the window to look outside, but could see my brother. After I while he noticed a litlle steam clouds coming and going in the spotlight. My little brother had wound couple of boxes, placed them on top of each other and climbed on top of them. He was standing underneath the spotlight and blowing steam from his mouth in to the light. The steam was visible only when it hit the ligh. He kept on doing that for a while, and my dad was watching him.

We started our Christmas Eve whit a bowl of porridge. I was last to wake up. I’m sure that my little brother had woken up early in the morning, even before mom and dad. Last year Antti didn’t have any porridge because he slept too long, he is still a bit sad about that. This year, Asta, my sister was the one whiteout mom’s porridge. That’s because she needs to take care of the cow’s trough Christmas and arrives to Kangasala at 27 th of December. Mom, dad, Antti and I had our porridges whit sugar and cinnamon. We never but almond in the porridge, even thoug that’s one of the Christmas traditions. Who gets the almond is the winner, usually he/she gets a bonus present or can make a wish.

After big bowls of porridge me and my brother started decorating the tree. Me and dad went and got in the day before from our own land, quite near to the house. I also made decoration for the tree. I cut some flags from an old book that I bought from Scotland earlier and attached the flags to a red string. I also clued strings to cones. The final touch was candy canes hanging from the branches. On the top of the tree we made a little heart shape whit two candy canes.

During the after noon we did some emergency shopping including headache medicine from the pharmacy and a new carpet for our new painted sauna corridor. After twelve oclock when they announced Christmas peace from Turku we mainly watched TV, I slept a bit. Mom was in the kitchen making sure that we will have something to eat in the evening. Around five my little brother did put on the beard, switched on his tractor and started going around neighbours making little kids happy. I can’t say no more; this includes a Christmas secret that some now some don’t.

Antti came back home around 7 pm. I started going through my closet trying to find something to wear for evening. I decided to wear my black dress whit grey cardigan, whit three pair of socks, big winter boots and enormous coat. Not forgetting claws and a hat. It’s always butt freezing at the cemetery on Christmas evening. Dad drove as to Tampere, first we went to see my mom’s dads grave, then to another cemetery to see dad’s dad, dad’s best friends and dad’s godfathers grave. Those who are in our thought everyday.

We went to our nice warm car and drove back home. Sauna was warm when we got back home so that was the next thing on the task list. The new carpet looked great, it was pink. Not exactly my dads favourite, but I was proud of my choice. After little re-freshmen it was time for eating. Pork served cold, some people add some mustard on top of it while the cook it in the oven but in my home we add the mustard when the pork is on the plate. Whit pork we had different casseroles made whit potatoes, liver, carrots and nips. My mom’s favourites are different herrings spiced up in sauces, for example made whit vinegar and spices. In our table there where five different ones, I am not a fan of any of them. Luckily we had also smoked salmon as a Christmas fish, which I love.
After big pile of food we started opening the present. Antti was the one handing the present from under the tree, and for somehow Antti was the one that got most of the presents. I am not complaining, I am really happy whit mine. Everybody also liked the present that I gave to them; Antti started playing the whistle instantly, dad liked the book and the boat even thoug it was exactly same kind that he had already and mom did put the bolero on immediately.

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY!

Why it is good to be home ...

You can spend long day whit pizza and good friend. And more importantly, do arts and grafts. Instead of school and drafts.

Why it is good to be home ...

Food. No more cheddar cheese on EVERYTHING. Instead cheap-ass student canteen whit salads, mains, sauces and bread.
